Welcome

Welcome to Calliope's Coffee House the proprietor of this establishment is Jacquie Reaville better known as The Book Imp.

When I started this place it was primarily for book reviews and thoughts on all things literary. Well the book reviews are still here, but somehow it's grown into a place for me and others to practice short fictional writing and of course a place where I can give my thoughts and opinions on virtually any subject that might take my fancy.

Hope you enjoy your visit.

Just to add that I welcome comments, the more the merrier. They don't even have to be related to books or writing just go wild (not too wild though).

Permissions are set so that even anonymous users can answer - but comment moderation is in effect which means I get to say yes or no to letting them appear here.

New Year New Life New Blog... Maybe

As you can see my page has changed a lot, don't worry, it's nowhere near finished, in fact it is barely begun. So really it's changing just like me. Besides I can't decided on whether to move the whole kit and caboodle over to WordPress or not. I need somewhere that I can separate out the basic 3 kinds of posts, reviews, 500 word fiction and me just generally wittering on.

New Year happened. It went by without much help from me, I've only just realised that over the whole Christmas period the sum total of my alcohol intake was 1 glass of wine and 2 Moscow Mules.

I'm still living at my eldest Sister's place and probably will be for some time to come, unless of course I win the lottery. It's not ideal but I'm grateful just the same. We get on ok most of the time and when we don't there are different rooms to hide in :)

2009

As I mentioned in an earlier post I'm thinking of reviewing DVD's too, a little different from books but it could be enjoyable. I'm also going to concentrate very hard this year on writing. I've been putting it off for far too long and maybe I can get somewhere with it. My imagination knows no bounds so why should I?

So I wish you all a very productive, prosperous, safe and contented 2009 and hope to see you here or there as soon as I've remembered how to change the code for this page, or moved to a brand new web site.

That's all folks (said in my best Bugs Bunny voice aren’t you sorry I don't have sound?)

  7. Hi Jacquie, good luck with the changes. I know only too well all about changing the website but I can tell you it feels great when its finished and you have what you (or others) want. I tried WordPress and it did not work for me but I think it was a mismatch between my coding, my host and Wordpress. It looks like a good option for those it suits.

Good luck in 2009 and here's hoping you get that lottery win and many other memorable successes in the 12 months ahead.

  9. Joe - I picked the Minima Stretch template from the customize - layout page. If you just want one sidebar and a place for your blog that should do for you. I changed the HTML a bit to get 2 sidebars and different lines and so on. You should take a look at http://tips-for-new-bloggers.blogspot.com/ its a great site.

I think I've done as much changing as I can handle right now, maybe later on in the year I'll swap sites or make a completely new template for this one, have to see how busy I get. For now this will do at least I can see what I've written.

Thanks for the luck, would be nice and you never know what the future holds. Hope your 2009 is just as memorable and successful.
